About this publication

The Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Enhanced Dataset (DAPB2026, formerly SCCI 2026) provides data to enhance NHS support and plan FGM healthcare services.  Additionally, this information enables multi-agency collaboration to develop strategic community initiatives aimed at preventing FGM.

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) refers to procedures that intentionally alter or cause injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons. FGM has been illegal in the United Kingdom since 1985, with the law being strengthened in 2003 to prevent girls travelling from the UK and undergoing FGM abroad.

Data is collected by healthcare providers in England, including acute hospitals, mental health services and GP practices.

Quarterly publication outputs are:

  • CSV file containing counts of recorded FGM cases, within the quarter, by geographic and demographic variables.
  • FGM dashboard which provides visualisation of this data, including time series.

Annual publication outputs additionally include a written report and Excel tables.
