  1. Our role and remit in the health service

    NHS Digital supplies information and data to the health service, provides vital technological infrastructure, and helps different parts of health and care work together.

  2. Keeping patient data safe

    We are the guardians of patient data, making sure it's protected, and only ever used for the good of health and care. We advise health and care on cyber and data security.

  1. NHS Digital Board

    Our Board is made up of our executive directors and non-executive directors, and reports the the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

  2. Future Board meetings

    Public sessions of the board are held regularly. Members of the public are welcome to attend and observe these meetings.

We have offices around England and we employ 2,500 staff as IT specialists, programme and project managers, statisticians, analysts, and information security experts.

  1. Publication scheme

    NHS Digital (previously HSCIC) provides national information, data and IT systems for health and care services. We exist to help patients, clinicians, commissioners, analysts and researchers. Our goal is to improve health and social care in England by making better use of technology, data and information. The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) was set up by the Department of Health in April 2013 and is an executive non-departmental public body. Trusted with over £1 billion of Department of Health funding, and an operating budget of £250 million, our team of 2,500 staff works to improve health and care services.

  3. NHS Digital slavery and human trafficking statement for 2017/18

    We recognise the requirement of supporting the Government's objective to eradicate modern slavery and human trafficking and the significant role NHS Digital has to play in both combating it and supporting victims. NHS Digital is committed to make sure its supply chains and business activities are free from ethical and labour standards abuse.

  4. Directions and Data Provision Notices

    The health secretary and other parts of the health service can ask NHS Digital to collect information on specific topics so that they can improve patient care.

  5. Independent Group Advising on the Release of Data

    The Independent Group Advising on the Release of Data (IGARD) considers all requests for dissemination of confidential information, as defined in Section 263 of the Health & Social Care Act, through the Data Access Request Service (DARS). We aim to improve transparency, accountability, quality and consistency through robust, independent scrutiny of NHS Digital data distributions, as well as providing a voice for stakeholders and the public.
