Guide to creating services in Path to Live NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS)

This guide is to enable users of the Path to Live environments to create and manage their own e-RS services to facilitate testing or training.

Under no circumstances should this guide be used for e-RS service administration within the Live environment.

Guide to creating services in Path to Live NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS)

Prerequisites

In order to create services in e-RS, a smartcard with the Service Definer (B1107) activity on a relevant role at the assigned trust is required. It should also be noted that the trust must also have associated sites configured.

To publish services as directly bookable (meaning that appointments are published on e-RS and can be booked electronically) a Patient Administration System (PAS) will be required and the Accredited System ID (ASID) for the PAS will need to be known. This then allows the provider system to be selected in e-RS for slot polling and booking related messages. Services can be configured without this information but will be ‘Indirectly Bookable’ meaning that patients can be referred to them but appointments cannot be booked directly within e-RS.

In order to commission services in e-RS, a smartcard with the Commissioner (B1106) activity on a relevant role at the referring organisation’s registration authority parent (formerly PCT) is required.
