What GP Connect does

GP Connect enables approved health and care systems to access, share and update information held in GP records to support direct patient care. It provides a range of products that support different information-sharing needs, from viewing and retrieving GP record information to sharing documents and supporting patient access.

GP Connect supports direct patient care by enabling approved systems to:

• view GP record information
• update GP records after care events
• share information between approved systems
• support patient access through approved applications where available

Who is included

GP Connect provides access to patient records held by their GP. For a given patient's record to be available via GP Connect, the following must be true:

• the patient must be registered with a GP in England
• the GP's software must support GP Connect
• the GP must have gone live with GP Connect
• the patient must not have opted out of GP Connect

Note that some suppliers and GPs might be live with a subset of the GP Connect products.

GP Connect consists of a number of individual 'products', each of which can be used independently:

Some end users will have these 3 products available from suppliers who originally developed them via GP Connect. However, there is no longer an onboarding route via GP Connect for new developers. Existing consumer suppliers can still onboard their end users.
