Released quarterly - age distribution of NHS App users
For releases relating to March, June, September and December of each year, the publication also includes age band breakdowns for selected NHS App metrics at England, regional and ICB level.
The age distribution outputs are published separately from the main Summary tables and consist of:
- An Excel workbook presenting percentage distributions of NHS App users by age band.
- An accompanying open-data CSV containing the underlying numerator, denominator and proportion values.
The age band outputs currently cover:
- NHS App unique user logins
- NHS App registered users
The Excel workbook presents data for March, June, September and December only. These quarter-end months were selected to provide a consistent time series whilst keeping the tables manageable and user-friendly.
The accompanying CSV contains the complete monthly time series, including numerator, denominator and proportion values, and can be used for more detailed analysis of trends over time.
Age band distributions were first introduced in the September 2026 release. Users viewing a non-quarter-end NHS App Statistics release should refer to the most recent March, June, September or December publication to access the latest age distribution workbook and CSV.
Use of the NHS App is restricted to individuals aged 13 years and over. Any records showing an age under 13 are therefore treated as data quality issues and are excluded from both the numerator and denominator when calculating age distributions. Users with an unknown or invalid age are also excluded from both the numerator and denominator. As a result, the denominators used to calculate these percentages do not match the corresponding totals published elsewhere in this publication.
In addition, a small number of users cannot be assigned to an NHS England region and are categorised as "Unknown" at regional and ICB level. These users are included in England-level figures but excluded from regional and ICB totals.
