[MI] NHS App Statistics

Figures presented cover the period from December 2020 to the most recent full month, where available.

Since the first release, covering April 2025, new metrics have continued to be introduced to this publication. From the July 2026 release, data are included for the following measures at Integrated Care Board (ICB) and national levels:

- NHS App monthly logins

- NHS App monthly unique user logins

- NHS App unique user logins in the previous 12 months

- NHS App account registrations

- NHS App prescription orders

- NHS App unique users ordering prescriptions

- Registered NHS App users

- NHS App messaging and notifications measures, including message delivery, message read rates and notification opt-in rates

Data are included for the following measures at national level only:

- NHS App all-time account registrations

- Unique users sent messages in the NHS App

Additionally, the publication includes a number of measures relating to the prescription tracking features of the NHS App, presented at national level only, including:

- Pharmacy and patient enablement

- Service usage

- Ready to Collect notifications

- Notification read rates

Age distribution of NHS App users

From the September 2026 release, this publication also includes supplementary age distribution outputs for NHS App users. These outputs provide percentage distributions of NHS App users by age band and are intended to complement the existing activity and registration measures published within this series.

These provide age band breakdowns for:

• NHS App unique user logins
• NHS App registered users

The age distribution outputs are available at England, region and ICB level and consist of:

• An Excel workbook showing percentage distributions by age band.
• An accompanying open-data CSV containing the underlying numerator, denominator and proportion values.

The age distribution files are published quarterly alongside the NHS App Management Information Statistics releases relating to March, June, September and December.  For releases other than March, June, September and December, users should refer to the most recent quarterly publication for the latest age distribution workbook and CSV.

Age band percentages exclude users with a recorded age under 13 years, which are treated as data quality issues because use of the NHS App is restricted to individuals aged 13 years and over, and users with an unknown age. Consequently, the denominators used within the age distribution outputs differ from the corresponding total figures published elsewhere in the NHS App Management Information Statistics publication.
