Summary of proportion of outpatient attendances and appointments by commissioning region

London had the highest outpatient activity with both the highest number of appointments (21.2 million or 20.8 per cent) and attendances (15.3 million or 19.5 per cent).

The South West region had both the lowest number of appointments (9.0 million or 8.8 per cent) and attendances (7.0 million or 8.9 per cent).

The North West region had the highest proportion of outpatient appointments that were attended (79.7 per cent, 10.7 million attendances out of 13.4 million appointments, while London had the lowest proportion of appointments that were attended (72.3 per cent, 15.3 million attendances out of 21.2 million appointments).


Summary of Proportion of 1st attendances and subsequent attendances by Commissioning Region, 2020-21

London had the highest number of first attendances (4.8 million or 20.2 per cent of the national total) and subsequent attendances (10.5 million or 19.3 per cent of the national total) in 2020-21.

The South West region had the lowest number of first attendances (2.2 million or 9.2 per cent of the national total) and subsequent attendances (4.8 million or 8.9 per cent of the national total).

The North West region had the highest number of subsequent attendances per first attendance (2.71) while the South East region had the lowest (2.11).
