Publication, Part of Cancer registrations statistics, England
Cancer Registration Statistics, England, 2024
National statistics, Accredited official statistics
Summary
This publication reports on registered primary cancers diagnosed during 2024 in England. Information is supplied as: a summary report showing key findings; spreadsheet tables (counts, age-standardised rates, non-standardised rates and age-specific rates); and a methodology update document. Incidence of cancer is reported using National Disease Registration Service (NDRS) cancer groups which incorporate both the location and type of cancer. Incidence counts and rates are available by combinations of gender, age at diagnosis, deprivation quintile, and stage at diagnosis (where appropriate). Incidence of cancer solely using ICD-10 3-digit codes to enable international comparisons are also available by gender and age at diagnosis.

NDRS User Research Opportunities
We are always looking for opportunities to embed user led approaches in our work and to continually assess and improve the service based on user feedback. Find out more about the NDRS User-Centred Design (UCD) principles on our website.
Key Facts
There were 373,574 new cancer diagnoses (excluding basal cell carcinoma and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma of skin) in 2024, which is 11,833 more than in 2023. This represents on average 1,021 new cancer diagnoses a day.
In total, there were 616,404 cancers (including basal cell carcinoma and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma of skin) in 2024.
The six most common cancer groups are skin, prostate, breast, lung, bowel, and blood.
Excluding basal cell carcinoma and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma of skin, half of all registered cancer diagnoses (50%) continue to be found in four main cancer groups: prostate, breast, lung, or bowel.
