GP COVID-19 vaccine dashboard

Find out about the GP COVID-19 vaccine dashboard, including information on the purpose of the dashboard, how to access it and the data included.

About the dashboard

The GP COVID-19 vaccine dashboard has been developed by NHS Digital to help Primary Care Networks (PCNs) increase vaccination uptake across their local communities.

It's accessible via NHS smartcard and is an optional tool to help the vaccination rollout.

The dashboard provides
  • a visualisation of COVID-19 vaccine uptake across patients registered to practices on your NHS smartcard
  • metrics showing progress to date
  • data that can be downloaded into your local GP Point of Care (PoC) solution to pull up patient records or download an invite list that can be loaded into local booking solutions
  • patient contact information to arrange a first dose or get a pending or overdue second dose booked in

Getting access

The dashboard is live and ready for access via smartcard. Follow these steps to get started:

Step 1 – Smartcard setup checks

To see uptake across GP practices (in your PCN or federation), you’ll need to have each practice on your smartcard along with the activity code B0360.

Work with your local RA and practices to get these added where they are not already present. If you don’t know your local RA, many (but not all) are listed on our contact details page, or you can contact your local CCG for assistance.

You’ll need to check your system status with regards to NHS Credential Management software, which is required to access the dashboards. This is currently being deployed by CCGs and IT support organisations across the NHS estate. Check if NHS Credential Management is installed on your machine.

If you see the following message when you try to log on, it means the NHS Credential Management software is not installed:

Image of dashboard error showing software not installed

If the NHS Credential Management is not installed, we recommend that you contact your local CCG/IT support to find out the deployment path. Deployments are happening rapidly, and we’d expect your situation will be resolved in the near future.

If this does not solve your immediate issue, discuss options with your local IT on how to get your machine updated ahead of their deployment schedule.

Step 2 – Access and training

About the data

You’ll see aggregated metrics and patient data for patients registered to practices recorded on your NHS smartcard.

Data is refreshed overnight from all vaccination PoC systems 7 days a week.

If you have any concerns or issues with the data presented or missing data, contact the NHS Digital national service desk on [email protected] or 0300 303 5035 with the details and they will investigate.

The user guide and training videos below will help you get the most out of the dashboard.

Regarding children aged 6 months to 4 years, JCVI advises that:

  • children aged 6 months to 4 years in a clinical risk group (as defined in the Green Book) should be offered two 3-microgram doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine (Comirnaty®) with an interval of at least 8 weeks between the first and second doses
  • JCVI does not currently advise COVID-19 vaccination of children aged 6 months to 4 years who are not in a clinical risk group

These individuals can still be surfaced using the dashboard filters.

Previous releases

14 April 2023

This release will include the following changes:

Change 1: Update vaccination eligibility

Update who is included as eligible and due a booster based on the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) guidance. Guidance confirmed with OPEL leads as follows:

  • boostered before 3 April OR has completed their full Primary course
  • last booster / second dose was over 91 days ago
  • the person is 75 and over or will be as of 30 June 2023 or is immunosuppressed / severely immunosuppressed and is aged 5 or over

Change 2:

Inclusion of a filter on the dashboard to allow a user to filter their view on boosters to only see people included in the Spring booster scope as defined by the JCVI.

5 April 2023

This release will include the following changes:

Change 1: New Foundry cohorts, CaaS cohort introduction

This change includes:

  • introducing the new Foundry cohorts
  • as part of this change, plug in new source of CaaS 'sub' cohorts for the GP Vaccination dashboard

Most Foundry cohorts are age driven.

‘At risk’ cohorts will be fed by new CaaS sub cohorts (see bottom of ticket for description of these sub cohorts).

Note that, for the dashboard, a person can only belong to one cohort – where they qualify for multiple, the person gets allocated to the highest priority cohort.

Change 2: Other Dashboard changes: templates, updates

This change includes:

  • alignment of dashboard to new templates
  • removal of vaccine product chart from the 2nd dose page and from the filters on the patient download page
  • renaming charts to 'Gender' (from sex)

Change 3: Enhance pseudo data in production for support

Augment the quantity and variation of pseudonymised data viewable in Production by support staff.

This action is being driven by an improvement action in Service Now which was triggered as part of the dashboard retrospective.

1 December 2023

This release will include the following changes:

Removal of the list of Immunosupppressed and Severely Immunosuppressed patients from the dashboard.  This list was posted in June and is being taken down due to its age.  A new list formed from GP and hospital records will be posted in the new year.

26 August 2022

This release will include the following changes:

  • booster invite lists – updated to include new rules for Autumn booster. Everyone who is over 50 years old or those aged 5 years and over in an at risk group will be eligible for an Autumn booster - names will be included on the Booster invite lists 61 days post the latest booster - immunosuppressed lists will also be updated with new booster dose due dates based on Autumn booster rules
  • removal of CEV (clinically extremely vulnerable) filters and visualisations throughout the dashboard

  • The cumulative booster chart on the homepage has been corrected for the number of patients who have had a 3rd dose or booster and are not currently eligible.

If you have any queries and need additional support, contact the NHS Digital national service desk on [email protected] or 0300 303 5035.

1 July 2022

This release includes the following changes:

  • Following the decision to end the use of the Clinically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV) classification, the dashboard is taking steps to remove the data and visualisations.
  • This first step retains the filters and visualisations but has them all marked as ‘no longer in use’ and all individuals included on the dashboard will now be set to ‘non CEV’.
  • The filters and visualisations will be removed from the dashboard as part of the larger Autumn booster change.

If you have any queries and need additional support, contact the NHS Digital national service desk on [email protected] or 0300 303 5035.

17 June 2022

Update to the immunosuppressed patient list - list has been rerun and now includes patients aged 5 upwards. For more information, see the immunosuppressed patient list section above.

Eligibility for the spring booster will now be from 91 days (3 months) - a change from the original 182 days (6 months).  This is being done to support the final weeks of spring booster.

11 May 2022

This release provided an updated data source refresh table within the Caveats and Information page.

The changes were:

  • PDS changes (covering patient details and their registered GP practice) refresh in the national data store by 9am every day.  Any changes will be picked up by the dashboard on the following day
  • the addition of cohort tables for Cohort 6, 5 to 15 at risk, plus the immunocompromised
13 April 2022

Two fixes have been applied to the dashboard:

  1. An issue with under reporting of spring boosters was detected early this week. The dashboard was wrongly excluding anyone who’d had a previous booster dose. This issue was root caused and is now resolved. For those who have previously run searches for spring boosters in the dashboard, please be aware that you should see a much larger list now of those who are eligible. We apologise for this issue.
  2. A previous issue was detected whereby, within the immunocompromised page, anyone who’d had a booster was seeing the incorrect 3rd dose date. This has now been resolved.
22 March 2022

Introduction of spring boosters into the dashboard. The dashboard will now flag those who are due a spring booster including 75s and over and those who are severely immunocompromised.

  • In this change, expect to see a change in booster counts as 75s and over become eligible for the spring booster and move into the eligible for booster group.
  • in the immunocompromised page, we’ve calculated spring booster due dates for those patients who have had their 1st booster
  • note that all those eligible for a 1st booster in the above groups are still included in your data
  • this release has also resolved the incident where those with Janssen vaccines were being wrongly excluded from eligible for booster lists in the Patient Download report
4 March 2022

Introduction of COVID cohorts 1 to 17 into the dashboard including cohort 13 (12 to 15 at risk group) and cohort 17 (5 to 11 at risk group).

9 February 2022

Introduced patient address as a new downloadable column in the dataset provided in the immunocompromised page.

16 December 2021

Inclusion of 18+ as eligible for boosters.

14 January 2022

Dashboard updated to include 16 and 17 year olds as eligible for boosters.  Note that individuals will still need to be 3 months post their 2nd dose to qualify.  For more information on boosters, see the Caveats and Information page on the dashboard.
