ICB Access to General Practice Dashboard

Find out about the Integrated Care Board (ICB) Access to General Practice Data Dashboard, including information on the purpose of the dashboard, how to access it and the data included.

About the dashboard

The ICB Access to General Practice Dashboard provides information about scheduled activity and usage of GP appointments and cloud-based telephony volumes at practice, primary care network (PCN), ICB, regional and national levels. This dashboard aims to inform you about activity in GP practices in your area and the impact of seasonal pressures for management information.

It is accessible to NHS regions and ICBs.

About the data

The dashboard provides two elements of access to general practice information:

Appointments in general practice

The information provided in the GPAD tab is collected from GP systems from participating practices with 99% coverage in England. These include practices using EMIS, TPP, Informatica, Cegedim (previously Vision), Babylon (GP at Hand), Evergreen Life and Medicus GP systems. Dashboard data is updated monthly, on or before the last Thursday of the month.

This dashboard provides:
  • A monthly summary of total appointments for practices and PCNs within your ICB for the last 6 months at practice, sub-ICB, ICB and national levels
  • A monthly summary of appointments not typically scheduled in advance, broken down by the time between when the appointment was booked and when the appointment took place
  • The number of appointments per 1,000 registered patients (available at practice level only)

Total appointments for practices can also be broken down by the time between when the appointment was booked and when the appointment took place, the mode of the appointment, the health care professional type of the person seeing the patient, the national category of the appointment and the service setting of the appointment.

For more information, see Appointments in General Practice: supporting information.

Cloud-based telephony

This dashboard contains information supplied by the telephone system suppliers that provide services to GP practices. This is a new collection and has been released within the dashboard for quality assurance. There are several suppliers that we are still working with, and their data will be added in future. For more information on suppliers and data quality, see our webpage Cloud Based Telephony: supporting information.

The dashboard contains:

  • a monthly summary of total inbound calls to practices and how these calls were dealt with (answered, calls ending during the IVR , and call back requests) and the number of calls missed (ended whilst queuing to speak to a member of staff) within your ICB at practice sub-ICB, ICB and national levels
  • a monthly summary of Inbound calls by day and time of day, and the duration of answered calls

If you have any concerns or issues with the data presented, or missing data, email our Contact Centre: [email protected] (use ‘ICB Access to General Practice Dashboard’ as the email’s subject).
