Roadmap

Find out what we are working on now and what we plan to do in the future.

Introduction

NHS login is a service that is constantly being developed and improved, and we are regularly adding new features based on research and data insights. The roadmap shows what we are working on right now and what we plan to do in the future, but some of these things may change over time.

October to December 2023

  • Users will be able to register for services by using biometric capabilities held in their own device (phone/laptop).

  • The capability for users to be verified at a high level by GPs will be extended to a greater number of practices.

  • Users will be able to use their NHS login credentials for over 100 digital health and care services.

  • A new, automated, on-line version of the Prove Your Identity journey will be deployed.

January to March 2024

  • We will extend the number of practices where GPs can verify high level users.

  • We are updating our strategic account management process to make sure all P9 NHS logins have a 10-year life span.

  • In line with our account management policy, we are reviewing and deleting any inactive P5 NHS logins.

  • We are changing provider for our communications with the Personal Demographics Service (PDS). This will be from the Spine Mini Service Provider (SMSP) to the new Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) API.

  • We are integrating a new accessibility tool called Lighthouse. This is to ensure our current and future development releases meet accessibility standards.

  • We are carrying out a review of NHS login users journeys to identify areas of improvement.

  • Users will be able to create a passkey to access services through biometrics stored on their devices and in the cloud.

  • When accessing services, we will prompt users to create a passkey.
