Summary

The NHS Outcomes Framework (NHS OF) is a set of indicators developed by the Department of Health to monitor the health outcomes of adults and children in England. The framework provides an overview of how the NHS is performing.


Key Facts

22-09-2016 - Please note that the GP patient survey (GPPS) data files have been updated. The historic deprivation breakdowns calculated using 2010 Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) scores have been reinstated. An additional version of the 2015/16 indicator data has been added; this has now been calculated using both 2010 and 2015 IMD scores to show the scale of difference between the results. The September commentary discusses these differences.

The documentation added to the resources section in August 2016 included new data for the following indicators:

  • 2 Health-related quality of life for people with long-term conditions
  • 2.1 Proportion of people feeling supported to manage their condition
  • 2.2 Employment of people with long-term conditions
  • 2.4 Health-related quality of life for carers
  • 2.5.i Employment of people with mental illness
  • 2.7 Health-related quality of life for people with three or more long-term conditions
  • 4a.i Patient experience of primary care - GP services
  • 4a.iii Patient experience of primary care - NHS dental services
  • 4b Patient experience of hospital care
  • 4.2 Responsiveness to inpatients' personal needs
  • 4.4.i Access to GP services
  • 4.4.ii Access to NHS dental services
  • 5.2.i Incidence of healthcare associated infection (HCAI) - MRSA
  • 5.2.ii Incidence of healthcare associated infection (HCAI) - C. Difficile

The following indicator was due to be published in the August release. However, due to changes in the provision of services when GP surgeries are closed, there have been some changes to the source data which mean this indicator can no longer be generated:

  • 4a.ii Patient experience of primary care - GP Out-of-hours services

The documentation added to the resources section in September 2016 included new deprivation data for the following indicators:
