Part 3: Ethnicity

Data quality checks have been undertaken to ensure that the dataset remains representative by ethnic category. The proportion of children measured in each ethnic group was compared between 2018/19 and 2019/20 and was very similar in both Reception and Year 6 with maximum change of 1.2 percentage points for children in Reception in the White ethnic group, see Table H for more information.

The data quality analyses indicate that the ethnicity data presented in this section is comparable with previous NCMP years.

Obesity prevalence was highest for Black children in both reception and year 6.

It was lowest for Chinese children in reception and White and Chinese children in year 6.

Underweight prevalence was highest for Asian children in both reception and year 6.

Ethnic categories displayed here have been derived by combining lower level NHS ethnic categories.  A lower level breakdown is available in tables 7 and 8.
