Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS) Data Provision Notice
Data Provision Notice for the Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS). ECDS allows NHS Digital to provide information to support the care provided in emergency departments by including the data items needed to understand capacity and demand and help improve patient care.
The Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS) is the national data set for emergency care services. It replaced Accident and Emergency (A&E) Commissioning Data Set (CDS) (CDS type 010) and was implemented through: ECDS (CDS 6.2.2 Type 011).
ECDS allows NHS Digital to provide information to support the care provided in emergency departments by including the data items needed to understand capacity and demand and help improve patient care.
By using ECDS across all emergency departments, we are able to compare data and provide a more complete picture of all emergency attendances.
Scope of the collection
Organisations providing publicly funded emergency care services.
Legal basis for provision of data
Section 259 of the Health and Social Care Act.
