Once an EPS prescription has been signed and issued, a patient can still decide to receive their EPS prescription from another pharmacy. This may be because their nominated pharmacy does not have the medication in stock, or because they are unable to access their nominated pharmacy.
Patients can ask their nominated pharmacy to return the prescription to Spine and issue them with a prescription token that contains the prescription ID (barcode) to enable another pharmacy to download it from the Spine quickly and simply. Patients that use the NHS App, will be able to present the prescription barcode in the App to another pharmacy, once their nominated pharmacy has returned it to Spine.
Alternatively, once the prescription is returned to Spine, the patient can provide their NHS or prescription ID number to have the medication dispensed from a different pharmacy; they may need to contact their nominated pharmacy or GP for this information.
Similarly, if the patient is not able to access their usual pharmacy, for example, outside of opening hours, and the prescription has not yet been downloaded at the nominated pharmacy, the patient can provide another pharmacy with their NHS number or prescription ID to have the medication dispensed there.
