NHS DigiTrials - What is Feasibility Self-Service?
Securely filter potential participants using simple criteria. Access a vast pool of over 63 million anonymised individuals across NHS datasets such as:
- Personal Demographics Service - understand patient characteristics (daily updates)
- Hospital Episode Statistics (Admitted Patient Care) - analyse inpatient treatment and diagnoses (monthly updates)
- Hospital Episode Statistics (Outpatient) - analyse outpatient treatment and diagnoses (monthly updates)
- Medicines Dispensed in Primary Care - identify relevant medication history (monthly updates)
Feasibility Self-Service subscriptions and cost
Following an annual review the following updated pricing model for the Feasibility Self-Service tool, excluding VAT, will be implemented from 1 October 2026. The new pricing model introduces a distinction between multi-use and single-use customers.
Each plan offers access for up to 3 users for the period of the subscription.

Standard trial customer
(conducting research on behalf of their own organisation)
A customer who is using the FSS tool to carry out or support research for up to 2 clinical trials or research projects on behalf of the customer's organisation.
Multi-trial customer
(conducting research on behalf of their organisation or providing this as a service to other organisations paid or otherwise)
A customer who is using the FSS tool to carry out or support research for 3+ clinical trials or research projects and/or on behalf of more than one organisation. This may include multiple trials, including those looking at for the same condition/cohort.
Examples of multi-trial customer under the definition include but are not limited to:
- clinical research organisations (CRO)
- universities obtaining a license on behalf of multiple departments
- university departments working on multiple clinical trial or research projects
Until the 30 September 2026 the pricing model will remain as below.
Each plan offers access for up to 3 users. Costs below indicate approximate cost of 100 queries per user, per month.
