Who can use the NHS App

All GP practices in England and the Isle of Man are connected to the NHS App. This means that anyone aged 13 or over and registered with a GP practice in England or the Isle of Man can use it.

You can download the NHS App on an iOS or Android device. You can also access the same services by logging in through the NHS website in a web browser.


What you can do in your NHS App

The NHS App enables you to:

Additionally, if you register and prove who you are, you can:

  • order repeat prescriptions and view, set or change change the pharmacy you want to collect your prescriptions from (known as your nominated pharmacy)
  • view your GP health record securely
  • manage your first hospital or clinic appointment with a specialist, if you are referred by your GP through the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS)
  • sign up for updates about participating in health research

In participating trusts, you can access a single view of all your hospital appointments and manage those appointments where appropriate.

In some GP practices, depending on which systems are in use, you can also:

  • message your GP surgery, doctor or health professional online
  • consult a GP or health professional through an online form and get a reply
  • request a fit note from your GP
  • view useful links your doctor or health professional has shared with you
  • access care plans from your care provider
  • view test results and imaging from your care provider
  • track your health by recording symptoms
  • choose and manage information you share with your care provider

Where it’s made available locally, patients can access a variety of Personal Health Record (PHR) services. This allows patients to see their hospital appointments, letters, test results, care plans and receive secure messages. The Patients Know Best service is available in 14 ICS areas across England.
