Networks and connectivity transformation - Frontline capabilities

Ensuring health and care organisations have the right underlying network infrastructure, broadband connectivity and wireless technology in place to support the growing demand for bandwidth and reliable connectivity.

Background

The Future Connectivity programme concluded in March 2025. You can still get in touch with the Networks and Connectivity Transformation - Frontline Capabilities team to:

Future Connectivity

The Future Connectivity programme was set up to identify priority health and care sites and provide a range of expertise, technical and commercial resources alongside match funding for installation costs to enable the NHS to achieve the timely adoption of gigabit capable connectivity.

The Future Connectivity programme was made up of 2 projects:

  • Connectivity Hub
  • Gigabit Pathways

Connectivity Hub

The Connectivity Hub worked with NHS organisations to fund innovative wireless trials aiming to address connectivity challenges, share best practice and provide guidance to get the best out of current and emerging wireless connectivity technologies.

Gigabit Pathways

The Gigabit Pathways project provided technical and commercial support alongside £30 million in match funding to enable over 5,800 NHS sites to improve their connectivity and deliver access to fast and efficient network solutions.

Find out how this funding and support enabled a range of benefits from enhanced connectivity to new digital services.

Future Connectivity Gigabit Pathways case studies

The Future Connectivity programme has supported over 1,700 sites to be gigabit capable, enabling a range of benefits from enhanced connectivity to new digital services.
