Innovation and strategy

Connectivity has an increasingly important role to play in delivering digitally mature health services and NHS organisations must make plans to ensure digital transformation is not hindered by poor connectivity.

The Networks and Connectivity Centre of Excellence supports the NHS to get the most out of its existing wired and wireless networks deployments and infrastructure. We support technology trials which allowed NHS organisations to explore how cutting edge technologies can support the delivery of better and more efficient health and care services.

Future content includes:

  • publications and webinars sharing strategic insights and horizon scanning of future trends and developments across networks and connectivity technology
  • an application form to register to take part in NHS England supported technology trials and proof of concepts

Wireless trials

Our wireless trials were designed to help the NHS understand how existing and emerging Wi-Fi solutions can be utilised, optimised, and orchestrated to support the delivery of better health and social care.

Wireless trialist case studies

The Wireless Trials have supported a range of NHS organisations to implement innovative connectivity solutions, including: satellite connectivity for community care, automatic management of IoT devices via Li-Fi and Real Time Location Service system pilots.

Read our guidance on how to run your own trials of connectivity infrastructure, application integration and devices, including a structure to define and measure benefits.
