Wireless on the move

To support NHS organisations The Networks and Connectivity programme is working with 4 NHS regions and NHS provider organisations to conduct limited volume, funded proof of concept of connectivity solutions during 2026.

The Frontline Productivity Networks and Connectivity team will collaborate with NHS regional teams to select and onboard organisations. The team will then work with providers to understand their current solutions and challenges and commences Proofs of Concepts (POC) of the new solution(s) later in the year.

There are 3 solutions in scope of the PoCs, including different types of roaming and intelligent SIM cards for devices and a signal boosting portable router solution for the most challenging connectivity environments.

The outcomes of these PoCs will guide NHS England Networks and Connectivity Centre of Excellence support and investments in future years including:

• signposting to solutions and how to procure them
• potential regional or national level procurements of solutions
• development of advice and guidance and deployment support
• further regional or national PoCs
