Chris Flynn and Dan Jeffery share what is planned from the DSC in the near future
Date:

The DSC's Chris Flynn, Head of Operations, and Dan Jeffery, Head of Innovation and Delivery, share what is planned in the near future.

The Data Security Centre (DSC) develops and tests a range of innovative products, services, and capabilities specifically designed to enable health and care organisations improve their security posture, while supporting clinical priorities and patient safety, so that they can take advantage of the digital revolution and embrace technology to deliver leading-edge health and care solutions that enhance patient outcomes.

We work with a wide range of national and international security-specialists as well as the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England and NHS Improvement to provide relevant, timely and health-focused advice, guidance, and expertise.

The DSC has already delivered a wide range of support mechanisms, free of charge to health and care, including the Cyber Security Support Model, designed specifically to support organisations toward achieving greater overall Cyber security and resiliency as well as the mandatory Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation by June 2021, as well as aiding Network and Information Systems (NIS) compliance, completion of the Data Security Protection Toolkit and the well-led section of CQC inspections.

As well significant improvements to our own, centrally delivered threat hunting and monitoring capabilities we are exploring a range of technology products and services to support local security capability and resiliency.  We are testing a network security platform deployed as next-generation firewall; piloting a collaborative endpoint management platform that helps organisations to discover, manage and secure endpoints across their estate and trialling Software as a Service (SaaS) which acts as a gatekeeper, to provide enhanced visibility of an organisations cloud application usage.

We will soon launch a suite of materials, artefacts, and tools organisations can take advantage of including a table-top, cyber-resilience exercise utilising a range of scenarios modelled on realistic incidents; a ‘simulated phishing tool’ you can use within your organisation to test staff awareness of the risks associated with phishing emails; and we will be launching a NHS-wide national cyber security campaign.

Additionally, we’re building a Cyber Design Authority which will provide security architecture support and artefacts to those organisations undertaking digital transformation journeys and improvement programmes.

There is a lot more planned and we’ll use our LinkedIn page to keep you up to speed.

Watch this space to find out more of what is in the pipeline.
