Assessment and support

We help health and care organisations to assess their data and cyber security practices and provide support to prepare for and respond to data and cyber security incidents.

On site assessments

We provide data security assessments on site at health and care organisations. The assessment helps organisations to understand their current level of data security and provides a set of recommendations to overcome any vulnerabilities.

Specialist support is provided to implement the recommendations of the assessment. The assessment is a supportive review, rather than an inspection, and is not graded on a pass or fail basis.

Data Security and Protection Toolkit

The Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) is an online toolkit that allows health and care organisations to measure and report their performance against data security and information governance requirements, set by the Department of Health and Social Care and the National Data Guardian.

Completion of the toolkit is mandatory for any health and care organisation that has access to patient data.

Incident management support

In the event of a data security incident, we can provide a range of support services to help local organisations respond and recover. This can include on site support, remote checks and more.

Data security helpline

A helpline phone number for health and care organisations experiencing a data security incident or seeking general advice. This is a direct line to a specialist team within the NHS Digital Data Security Centre.

Telephone: 0300 303 5222.

Free Microsoft Windows desktop operating system licences (including advanced threat protection)

We provide Windows desktop operating system licences completely free of charge to health and care organisations. We also provide migration support where required. This allows health and care organisations to:

  • save money
  • reduce potential vulnerabilities
  • increase cyber resilience

The Windows 10 package includes advanced threat protection, which improves both local and national data security.

Patch downloads

Via the DSC portal, health and care organisations with an N3/HSCN connection can download the latest patches and updates for their Windows devices, made possible via our support agreement with Microsoft.
