How it works

  1. NHSE organisations and services use their MESH mailbox to make requests to NHS Notify to send messages to their recipients. Learn how to make a request to NHS Notify MESH.
  2. NHS Notify sends a confirmation message to the organisations or service's MESH mailbox that is has received the request.
  3. NHS Notify starts sending messages to recipients based on the routing plan (opens in a new tab) included in the request.
  4. The organisation or service is sent daily reports to their MESH mailbox that tells them what messages that have completed the previous day.

Who can use this integration

NHS Notify MESH is suited for NHS England organisations and services that:

  • are already using MESH
  • have limited developer or technical capacity
  • want to send large batches of messages to specific groups of recipients

If you do not want to use MESH, you can also integrate with NHS Notify API.

Before you start using this integration

Your organisation or service must have started onboarding with NHS Notify.

You also need to have integrated with MESH using either:

Status and service level

This integration is live.

NHS Notify is a silver service, meaning it is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and supported from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays.

Security and authorisation

This integration uses MESH which is an application-restricted API.

The integration does not perform any end user authentication or authorisation checks. If it's required, your organisation or service is expected to perform them.

Environments and testing

How you access MESH will affect how your organisation or service will perform integration testing.
