Additional Disability

Over one in four people (28.5%) on the register overall has an additional disability, this is broadly unchanged since the last collection. Additional disabilities were recorded for 38,935 people on the register of blind/severely sight impaired person, and 37,560 people on the register of partial sight / sight impaired persons.

Of the disabilities registered, 23.7% related to hearing whilst 62.9% related to physical disabilities. There is a hierarchy in place so that in the case of multiple disabilities, registrations are only counted once; recording of deafness or hard of hearing should be prioritised over the recording of mental health/learning/physical disabilities.

Full detail on additional disabilities can be found in Tables 3 and 4 of the Data Tables. Some local authorities reported issues completing this data, details of which can be found in the accompanying Data Quality Summary.
