Due to data coverage and completeness considerations, which are described in more detail in the data quality section, we are publishing only England-level figures in this release. As the data quality improves, more detailed information will be available at PCN level.

Data as at 31 March

1  Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) refers to the proportion of full time contracted hours that the post holder is contracted to work. 1 would indicate they work a full set of hours (37.5), 0.5 that they worked half time.

2  Headcount totals are unlikely to equal the sum of components, due in part to individuals working across multiple roles and areas. Further information on the headcount methodology is available in the Data Quality statement

3   These figures do not contain estimates for those Primary Care Networks that did not provide fully valid General Medical Practice staff records, or for records with no hours recorded - which have been excluded from the final data.

4  Staff who work within the recently formed Primary Care Networks (PCNs) do not form part of the standard General Practice workforce, who are reported separately in the General Practice Workforce publication series.

5  Pooled role data captures no personal information about the staff fulfilling the contracted responsibilities, only the total hours of work provided, and therefore no headcount information is available for these roles.

6   NHS England guidance states that clinical directors and administrative staff cannot be employed as pooled resource. As a result, two FTE clinical director roles and two FTE administrative roles were deleted from the pooled resource figures for data quality purposes.

7   NHS Digital seeks to minimise inaccuracies and the effect of missing and invalid data but responsibility for data accuracy lies with the organisations providing the data.
Methods are continually being updated to improve data quality. Where changes impact on figures already published, this is assessed but unless it is significant at national level figures are not changed.
