Data Source

The previous data source for Patients Registered at a GP Practice was National Health Applications and Infrastructure Services (NHAIS) which has been decommissioned. The data source has now changed to Personal Demographics Service (PDS) for 2024/25. There were no changes to the format of the publication documents.

Updated publication due to mapping issue

Due to an issue with the Single Year of Age files incorrectly aggregating data, the publication outputs were reproduced. An example of this issue would be the 95+ age band appearing multiple times rather than once.

This exposed an issue with the GP practice to PCN mapping reference data used to produce the publication which resulted in a duplicate count for the practice K82057 and the NHS geographies it maps to. All the counts including the national total were over-reported by 8,662.

The publication has been updated with the revised key facts and data files - we recommend replacing files which were downloaded prior to 20th May at 11:30am and caveating any reports which may included the previous totals.

Summary

Data for this publication are extracted each month as a snapshot in time from the Personal Demographics Service (PDS) - the national master database of all NHS patients. This release is an accurate snapshot as at 1 May 2024.

Due to an issue with the reference data used to produce this publication, the count of patients registered at the general practice K82057 was duplicated. This impacted the national total, the regional total for East of England, the ICB total for NHS Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board and the relevant sub-ICB and PCN totals. The publication has been updated with the revised key facts and outputs.

GP Practice; Primary Care Network (PCN); Sub Integrated Care Board Locations (SICBL); Integrated Care Board (ICB) and NHS England Commissioning Region level data are released in single year of age (SYOA) and 5-year age bands, both of which finish at 95+, split by gender. In addition, organisational mapping data is available to derive PCN; SICBL; ICB and Commissioning Region associated with a GP practice and is updated each month to give relevant organisational mapping.

Quarterly publications in January, April, July and October will include Lower Layer Super Output Area (LSOA) populations.
