The variation in the distribution of the number of patients registered at each GP practice has increased between April 2018 and April 2021 i.e. there is a greater difference between the number of patients registered at the practices with the most and least registered patients. This is due to a reduction in the number of open and active GP practices and a consequent increase in the number of patients registered at the remaining GP practices. The median number of patients registered at a GP practice has increased steadily between 2018 and 2021. The minimum number of patients registered at a single GP practice has remained constant (1 patient) between 2018 and 2021. Practices generally only have small numbers of registered patients when they are in the process of closing and are therefore transferring their patients to another practice but the process is not fully complete.
