The aim of this publication is to inform users, ranging from providers and commissioners of primary care services to inquiring citizens about recorded activity for patients within the NHS Health Check programme.

This publication reports the demographics of patients attending and not attending an NHS Health Check between April 2012 and March 2018. The publication was first launched in October 2019 with an update published in November 2020 which provides further information for the same groups of patients, including socio-economic characteristics and risk factors recorded in patients attending an NHS Health Check. An update published in May 2022 provided more information on the burden of risks found in patients attending an NHS Health Check and on the type of interventions offered to patients attending a check.

Data is reported by financial year and geographically at National, Clinical Commissioning Group and local authority level.

All data extracted and reported in this publication covers NHS Health Check activity that has been recorded by use of a clinical code in a patient’s electronic record within their registered GP practice. The publication includes data from participating GP practices using EMIS, TPP, Vision and Microtest GP systems.

This is an experimental statistics publication. The data presented in this publication are not comprehensive of all recorded NHS Health Check activity extracted. The publication contains important information however users are directed towards the data quality sections within the supporting information to understand limitations.

No identifiable patient data is released as part of this publication. Data from individual GP practices cannot be identified from this publication.

Note: An issue was identified on 17/11/2020 whereby duplicate data had been included in the CVD Risk Factors (Local authority geography) CSV file for the CVD Risk category breakdown. These duplicate rows have now been removed and a corrected file uploaded with the suffix 'Version 1.2'.

The summary table below with a suffix of 'Version 3' were updated as part of the November 2020 update to include the additional IMD and CVD risk breakdowns. The interactive dashboard was also updated to include these additional breakdowns.

A previous update on 27/02/2020 assigned some patients to local authorities who previously had not been assigned to an area. These files have the suffix 'Version 2'.
