Release of 'End of Year Final' data and other updates

Release of 'End of Year Final' data

From April 2020 onwards, NHS Digital has been implementing a multiple submission window model (MSWM) for MHSDS. This allows providers to retrospectively submit data for a specific reporting period once the initial provisional and performance submission windows have closed.  Please click on 'Multiple Submission Window Model' under 'Related Links' at the bottom of this page for further information.

'End of Year Final' versions of the main monthly csv files for each of the 5 months between April 2021 and August 2021 which reflect these revised 2021/22 MSWM submissions that occurred after 'Performance' monthly data had already been published are now available.

The September 2021 publication was the final monthly report to be published using data collected under MHSDS version 4.1, and as such, contained 'End of Year Final' rather than 'Performance'  data when originally published.

'End of Year Final' versions of the 'Mental Health Act', 'Children and Young People with an Eating Disorder', 'Children and Young People and Perinatal' and 'Length of Stay metrics' CSV files have been released where applicable also.

An 'End of Year Final' version of the 'Restrictive Interventions' CSV file was released in July 2022.

The MHSDS Monthly: Performance and Provisional Access and Waiting Times Reference Tables excel files have not been reissued using 'End of Year Final' data.  However the underlying Access and Waiting Times measures are available as 'End of Year Final' data within the MHSDS Monthly: End of Year Final MHSDS Data CSV file.

The Provisional October, Provisional November 2021 publication was the first monthly report to be published using data collected under MHSDS version 5.  NHS Digital published 'End of Year Final' versions of the main monthly csv files for each of the 5 months between October 2021 and February 2022 in July 2022.

MHS95 methodology update

Two updates to the methodology used to produce MHS95 (Number of Children and Young People aged under 18 supported through NHS funded mental health with at least one contact (12 month rolling)) have been made.

The first affects the 'CCG; Provider' breakdown and rectifies an issue which meant that not all relevant 'CCG; Provider' activity was being counted in the data originally released.

The second is a refinement to better record the activity undertaken in anonymous providers such as Kooth plc (previously known as XenZone Ltd).

Revised data for March, April and May 2021 using the new methodology is now available within v2 of the MHSDS Monthly Children and Young People and Perinatal CSV files.  Data for June 2021 onwards uses the new methodology.

A revised version of the Provisional June 2021 Children and Young People and Perinatal data originally released has not been released as part of this May 2021 publication as it is now superseded by data published as part of the June 2021 publication. NHS Digital apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Resolution of issue with MHSDS Monthly: Performance May 2021 Restrictive Interventions New CSV file

An issue was previously identified in the data contained within the Provider; Specialised Commissioning Service; Restrictive Intervention Type; Gender of the MHSDS Monthly: Performance May 2021 Restrictive Interventions New CSV file. As a result, this breakdown was temporarily removed from the file. The issue has now been resolved however, however rather than reinstate the breakdown in the Performance file, the Performance file has now been withdrawn altogether, and an 'End of Year Final' version of this file has now been made available instead. This includes the previously withdrawn breakdown. NHS Digital apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Resolution of issue with MHSDS Monthly: End of Year Final May 2021 Children and Young People with an Eating Disorder CSV file

An issue has been identified affecting ED87e (Proportion of referrals with eating disorders categorized as routine cases entering treatment within four weeks in RP, aged 0-18) data contained within the MHSDS Monthly: End of Year Final May 2021 Children and Young People with an Eating Disorder CSV file.  The issue has now been resolved and revised ED87e data is now available within the MHSDS Monthly: End of Year Final May 2021 Children and Young People with an Eating Disorder V2 available under 'Resources'. NHS Digital apologises for any inconvenience caused.
