The VTE data collection is to continue whilst the review regarding whether to continue the data collection takes place, therefore the normal arrangements for Q3 2019/20 have been reinstated. Apologies for any confusion or inconvenience caused.
The data collection was first made mandatory from June 2010 and data has been published quarterly from the first full quarter’s data (July to September 2010). From April 2019 there will be a change to the data collection to include 16 and 17 year old patients. The data collection asks for 3 items of information.
Number of patients aged 16 and over admitted in the month who have been risk assessed for VTE on admission to hospital using the criteria in a National VTE Risk Assessment Tool.
Total number of patients aged 16 and over admitted in the month.
Calculated from (1) and (2), the percentage of patients aged 16 and over, admitted within the month assessed for risk of VTE on admission.
