Tobacco prevention programme patient level data collection guidance

Version 4.3.5

Programme aims and delivery

The Tobacco Dependence Programme supports delivery of NHS-funded tobacco dependence treatment services in line with the NHS Long-Term Plan’s commitments to tackle avoidable illness.

The key goals include the following:

  • by 2023/24, all people admitted to hospital who smoke will be offered NHS-funded tobacco treatment services
  • the model will be adapted for pregnant women and their partners, with a new smoke-free pregnancy pathway including focused sessions and treatments
  • a new universal smoking cessation offer will also be available as part of specialist community mental health services for long term users

This guidance document has been updated to reflect the changes to the Tobacco Dependence Patient Level Collection that are being introduced from April 2023.

You can use this guidance as support; however, if you have any queries regarding your submission, please contact us at [email protected].
