Mixed-Sex Accommodation (MSA)
Frequency: monthly
Background to the collection
The NHS Operating Framework for 2012-2013 confirmed that all providers of NHS funded care are expected to eliminate mixed-sex accommodation, except where it is in the overall best interest of the patient.
From 1 December 2010, the collection of monthly Mixed-Sex Accommodation (MSA) breaches was introduced. NHS organisations submit data on the number of occurrences of unjustified mixing in relation to sleeping accommodation.
The collection enables the analysis and publication of consistently defined data to allow patients and members of the public to understand the extent to which MSA is occurring at individual organisations.
NHS England publishes the results each month. For further information and frequently asked questions relating to the collection, please visit the NHS England website.
Launch and submission dates
The collection is a monthly collection and will open on the morning of the 1st working day of the month. The collection will close at 11:59pm on the 7th working day of the month.
Registered data submitters of the data collection will receive monthly emails from Strategic Data Collection Service (SDCS) confirming when the reporting window is opening and closing.
