Acute Discharge Situation Report

This data collection helps to monitor and improve discharge processes by better understanding the reasons for discharge delays.

Background

The Acute Discharge Situation Report (SitRep), formerly known as COVID-19 acute daily discharge situation report, collects daily discharge data for all inpatients 18 and over from acute settings. This data collection helps to monitor and improve discharge processes by better understanding the reasons for discharge delays.

Data submission information

Data is collected via the Strategic Data Collection Service (SDCS) submission platform.

Daily data is collected on a weekly basis. Registered data providers will have access to the exact submission dates in SDCS.

Acute discharge situation report

Daily returns are collected from acute trusts through the COVID-19 acute daily discharge situation report (sitrep) and include data on daily discharges from acute settings.

Legal basis

NHS England has been directed, by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, under section 254 of the Health and Social Care Act 2012, to establish and operate a system for the collection and analysis of the information specified for this service. The direction and accompanying requirements specification are published on the Healthcare Operational Data Flows Directions 2024 NHS England webpage.

This information is required by NHS England under section 259(1)(a) of the Health and Social Care Act 2012.
