NHS Continuing Health Care Patient Level Data Set

Data Provision Notice to require the submission from relevant commissioning organisations of patient level data about NHS Continuing Health Care (CHC) activity.

This Data Provision Notice sets out a requirement for data to be submitted by Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) to NHS Digital.

In accordance with the Health and Care Act 2022, as of 1 July 2022, CCGs are abolished and their statutory obligations will be managed by Integrated Care Boards. These obligations include the continuing requirement to submit data to NHS Digital as set out in this Data Provision Notice.

Overview

NHS Digital has been directed by NHS England to establish and operate a system for the collection of patient level data in respect of NHS Continuing Health Care (CHC) activity.

Known as the NHS Continuing Health Care Patient Level Data Set, this collection aims to deliver robust, comprehensive, nationally consistent, and comparable information about people accessing NHS funded CHC services located in England. Data covers the end-to-end CHC activity process, from the initial checklist to the commissioning and monitoring of individual care packages.

The data set will provide understandable intelligence on all aspects of performance, patient care and efficiency relating to NHS CHC.

Scope

This Notice is served on:

  • all commissioning bodies responsible for NHS CHC services in England.
    • i.e. clinical commissioning groups (until their closure) and successor bodies (integrated care boards).

Legal basis

Period

Local collection of the data set starts on 1 April 2022, with a first central submission date of 31 May 2022. Thereafter submission will be on a monthly basis.
