National Diabetes Audit Programme - Wales

Data Provision Notice to require the submission of data from participating NHS organisations in Wales to help improve the quality of diabetes care.

Overview

Digital Health and Care Wales has requested NHS England to establish and operate a system for the collection and analysis of the National Diabetes Audit (NDA) Programme in Wales. 

The NDA Programme is made up of the following individual areas:

  • National Diabetes Inpatient Safety Audit (NDISA)
  • National Diabetes Footcare Audit (NDFA)
  • National Diabetes Core Audit (NDA Core)
  • National Pregnancy in Diabetes Audit (NPID)
  • Integrated Specialist Services (ISS) Survey

This Data Provision Notice requests the submission to NHS England of data relating to the treatment and outcomes of patients with diabetes, to enable the NDA Programme to happen. 


Scope

This Notice is served on any:

  • NHS general practice treating patients based in Wales
  • specialist diabetes out-patient services in Wales that deliver diabetes care

Legal basis


Period

Each of the individual audits within the NDA programme that collect data via CAP have an annual cycle of data collection, data quality review and update, analysis and publication as follows: 

  • for NDFA, there is continuous data collection with an extract taken in summer each year for a data quality review followed shortly after by the final submission date - report publication is biennial in spring
  • for NDISA, the collection is continuous (with a continuous self-data quality review) and an extract is taken in autumn for publication in May. Report publication is biennial in summer
  • the NPID audit collection is continuous with a data quality round from mid-February to the end of March when a final extract is taken. Report publication is biennial in autumn
  • for the NDA Core audit, NHS England receives primary care data via Digital Health and Care Wales annually, while secondary care providers may submit data via CAP at any point in the year - there is a final cut-off date in early summer for the inclusion of data in NDA Core outputs
  • the Integrated Specialist Services Survey is carried out on an annual basis in October - services should answer the survey with the position of their service as at 1 October each year and must submit within a submission window, which is communicated to key contacts ahead of the collection each year
