General practice appointments data collection Data Provision Notice
NHS Digital has been directed by NHS England to collect information about GP appointments in general practice. These appointment data will help to deliver more effective planning and management of appointment capacity at local and regional level.
Overview of the collection
It is widely known NHS services come under significant pressure across winter and other holiday periods and although there are regular flows of data across secondary care, the understanding of capacity an utilisation of primary care services is limited.
Once the data has been collected by NHS Digital, it will be passed to NHS England who will carry out the majority of the processing, analysis and further use of the data.
