Request received for the longest length of stay for inpatients with a learning disability and autistic inpatients in mental health hospitals with a breakdown by length of stay bandings and Mental Health Act Part III, with and without restrictions.

Our response

We provided data from Assuring Transformation, (AT) as at 31 July 2026, for each ICB and nationally.

1. The longest current total length stays rounded to whole years for:

  1. All inpatients excluding inpatients detained under any MHA part III
  2. All inpatients detained under MHA Part III with restrictions
  3. All inpatients detained under MHA Part III with no restrictions

2. The count and percentage of current inpatients per area with a total length of stay exceeding 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 years:

  1. One table to include all inpatients
  2. One table to exclude patients detained under any MHA Part III
  3. One table to only include inpatients detained under MHA Part III with restrictions
  4. One table to only include inpatients detained under MHA Part III with no restrictions
