The NHS App collects basic activity data relating to specific tasks performed in the NHS App. This data, in combination with assumptions relating to the benefit of these tasks (informed by research and subject matter opinion), has been used to estimate potential benefit of the NHS App to specific physical NHS services.
It is important to note that these are estimates of what would have happened if people had not used the NHS App. They are based on a set of assumptions, applied to the best available evidence (which are of varying degrees of quality). More details are provided against each item. If the assumptions were to change, the estimates would also change.
It is possible that the methodology or data sources will be developed which could lead to revisions to estimates. If this is the case, this supplementary file or existing statements will not be reissued. However, any new figures used in public statements will have the underpinning data and methodology released as supplementary information.
NB. The estimated total hours saved figure is 5.8 million, compared with 5.7 million in the press release. Figures are slightly different due to updates to data from operational systems (management information from Mar 2025 actuals vs Feb 2025 estimates); and consistently using the most granular data in subtotals. Given the overall uncertainty in the estimates, we do not deem this to be a material difference.
