Longstanding illness in HSE years 2012 and 2022

This report provides estimates for prevalence of longstanding illness (including limiting and non-limiting) in HSE years 2012 and 2022, breakdown by age.

Information on longstanding illness is collected as part of the interview. Participants were asked: ‘Do you have any physical or mental health conditions or illnesses lasting or expected to last 12 months or more?’, and those who responded Yes are coded as having a longstanding illness. Participants were further asked: 'Do any of your conditions or illnesses reduce your ability to carry out day-to-day activities?', and those who responded Yes, a little or Yes, a lot are coded as having a limiting longstanding illness.
