Request received
A request was received for early release of Mental Health statistics based on “provisional” April 2020 IAPT Dataset (IAPT) data to aid understanding of the impact of COVID-19 on providers of psychological therapy services. Normal publication, including some of these provisional statistics, would be on Thursday 11/06/2020, however the majority of these statistics would not normally be published based on provisional data.
A list of those individuals with access to the statistics prior to release here is also provided.
Our response
Care should be taken when interpreting these statistics as the data quality of provisional data is not as complete as final data and it will cover a lower set of providers. As such the data will be limited to providing a large sample of provider activity across the country but not a full national picture. This is because provisional data is based on the initial submission (the primary) from providers to IAPT. The submission process allows one month for an initial submission (the primary) and a second month for a final submission (the refresh) where data quality and completeness can be improved. There is no obligation to provide the primary submission and so a number of providers provide a single submission in the refresh window. The earlier primary submission is used to provide more timely information on service activity.
