Accessibility Statement

NHS Digital is committed to making its websites and mobile applications accessible, in accordance with The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018. This accessibility statement applies to the Strategic Data Collection Service in the cloud (SDCS Cloud).

This website is run by NHS Digital. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

•    change colours, contrast levels and fonts
•    zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
•    navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
•    navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
•    listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Technical information about this website's accessibility

NHS Digital is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-Accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

We use pagination to help navigate through multiple pages when showing results on the submissions dashboard.  Our pagination does not comply with recommended accessibility guidelines that recommend that keyboard-only navigation is possible.  This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 (Keyboard).

We need to improve content that is readable by screen readers on the submission and dashboard pages.  This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1 (Compatible).

The colour contrast used on navigation links does not meet the expected minimum contrast ratio for meaningful graphics of 3:1.  This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast).

The colour contrast used on form controls not meet the expected minimum contrast ratio for meaningful graphics of 3:1.  This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast).

Error suggestions are not descriptive enough for users to identify the permitted file types.  This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.3.3 (Error suggestion).

Error suggestions are not descriptive enough for users to correct the entry of an invalid password.  This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.3.3 (Error suggestion).

Users are not able to easily identify all of the submission details from the table on the dashboards page because the name of the file is not shown.  This makes it difficult for users know which submission they want to view using the action link provided.  This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.3.2 (Labels or Instructions).

We plan to address these items by the end of October 2020.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are working to resolve the issues listed above.  In addition, our development team has access to the tools that are required to regularly test the accessibility of SDCS Cloud.  We are enhancing our assurance procedures to include accessibility testing as part of our routine assurance tasks.
