This programme delivers a range of developments to improve the quality of general practice appointment data (GPAD).

Latest update

  • Data on appointment categorisation, duration of consultations and more detail on the healthcare professional leading appointments is now included in the GP Appointment Data Publication
  • GP-AD Practice Level dashboards are available to highlight key data quality metrics
  • GP-AD PCN and ICB dashboards are available
  • The Digital Partnering Team are providing direct focussed support to GP Practices, PCNs and ICBs on usage of the dashboards, improving data quality and measuring data against the latest IIF indicators. Show and Tells are being run in each region to deliver this and provide additional support as necessary.
  • Future Developments around ARRs roles and Exception Reporting are due to become available soon and Digital Partnering will be at the forefront of the rollout offering support and guidance to all users around this.

This programme delivers a range of developments to improve the quality of general practice appointment data (GPAD).  This is to ensure that published general practice appointment data fairly represents the appointment activity carried out across practices and general practice providers in England.

What information is available

The GP Appointments Data (GPAD) Dashboard provides information about scheduled activity and usage of GP appointments at practice level. The aim of the dashboard is to inform users about activity in their own practice and the impact of seasonal pressures for management information.

It's only accessible via NHS smartcard.

The dashboard provides:

  • A summary of total appointments by status, mode, Health Care Profession (HCP), time from booking to an appointment, duration, national category and SDS (Spine Directory Services) role across patients registered to practices on your NHS smartcard
  • Total appointments comparison to previous periods
  • Appointment Cross Tabs analysis by Status/Mode/HCP/time from booking to an appointment/National Categories/SDS Role
  • Data Quality Summary page to highlight data quality issues
  • National Categories Cross tab along with metrics showing mapping progress to date
  • Ability to download data for further analysis

Examples of use

The General Practice Appointments Data (GPAD) private dashboard provides information about scheduled activity and usage of GP appointments at practice level. The aim of the dashboard is to inform users about activity in their own practice and the impact of seasonal pressures for management information. Users can only see information from their own practice.
