AWS Cloud Skills

As the NHS moves into cloud they need individuals with cloud skills to help transform their mission. AWS training and certification helps you build and validate your skills so you can get more out of the cloud. Our content is created by experts at AWS and updated regularly so you can keep your cloud skills fresh. Whether you are just starting out, building on existing IT skills, or sharpening your cloud knowledge, AWS training and certification can help you be more effective and do more in the cloud.

Together with AWS we can offer you access to AWS digital content and instructor-led courses (saving you up to £2,000 per course).

AWS courses are grouped by job roles and solutions areas. Simply pick the area you want to start from the learning paths (essentials to start, then focus with intermediate and advanced courses).  We've also included a list of course training dates.  

Each course is available for NHS employees using an nhs.net email address via the AWS One Government Value Agreement (OGVA) Microsite. 

We will also fund exam vouchers for NHS Digital staff which are available through the NHS Digital training portal. 

The essentials courses and certification are a great place to start. These courses require no pre-requisites or prior knowledge of AWS. 

Start with the 

• AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials (1 day) if you seek an overall understanding of AWS Cloud, or wish to complete your first AWS certification
• AWS Technical Essentials (1 day) to learn the fundamentals of identifying AWS services to make informed decisions about IT solutions based on your business requirements

Solve your business challenges by designing and optimising cloud solutions using AWS services, best practices and the AWS Well-Architected Framework.

We recommend you start with

• Architecting on AWS (3 days) learn the fundamentals of building IT infrastructure on AWS

Once you have completed this course you can move on to 

• Advanced Architecting on AWS (3 days) learn how to build complex solutions which incorporate data services, governance and security on AWS

• AWS Well-Architected Best Practices (1 day) learn how to use the Well-Architected Review process and the AWS Well-Architected Tool to conduct reviews to identify high risk issues

• Advanced AWS Well-Architected Best Practices (1 day)  deep dive into best practice to perform effective and efficient AWS Well-Architected Framework Reviews

These courses will help prepare you for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect , Associate and AWS Certified Solutions Architect and the professional certification exams.

Business and technical professionals can learn cloud financial management with AWS.

• Building data lakes on AWS (1 day) learn how to build an operational data lake that supports analysis of both structured and unstructured data

• Building batch data analytics solutions on AWS (1 day) learn to build batch data analytics solutions using Amazon EMR

• Building data analytics solutions using Amazon Redshift (1 day) dive deep into the Amazon Redshift service to turn data into insights
• Building streaming data analytics solutions on AWS (1 day) learn to build streaming data analytics solutions using AWS services, including Amazon Kinesis and Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (Amazon MSK)

• Data warehousing on AWS (3 days) learn concepts, strategies, and best practices for designing a cloud-based data warehousing solution using Amazon Redshift

These courses prepare you for the AWS Certified Data Analytics Specialty certification exam.

Learn about AWS' relational and nonrelational database services and how to choose which database is the best choice for your solution.

• planning and designing databases on AWS (3 days) explore the key features of AWS database services and learn how to choose the appropriate AWS database service to meet your application's needs and requirements

This course will help prepare you for the AWS Certified Database Specialty certification exam.  

Learn how to build modern applications on AWS using microservices, containers, and serverless technologies using the programming language of your choice. You'll also be exposed to the foundational principles of DevOps and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) on AWS.

Start with

Developing on AWS (3 days) learn how to use the AWS Software Development Kit to develop secure and scalable cloud applications.

Then progress to:

• Running containers on Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Services (EKS) (3 days) learn container management and orchestration for Kubernetes using Amazon EKS. 

• Developing Serverless Solutions on AWS (3 days) learn AWS Serverless Frameworks and how to build, secure, deploy, and manage modern serverless applications

• Advanced Developing on AWS (3 days) learn how to take a legacy, on premise monolithic application and refactoring it into a serverless microservices architecture

These courses will help prepare you for the AWS Certified Developer Associate certification exam. 

Become proficient at deploying secure and reliable applications at high velocity on AWS by using version control, infrastructure as code and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).

Once you have completed one of these courses you can move on to 

• DevOps engineering on AWS (3 days) learn the most common DevOps patterns to develop, deploy, and maintain applications on the AWS platform

This course will help prepare you for the AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional certification exam. 

Data scientists and developers can learn how to integrate machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) into applications. You'll also learn the tools and techniques for data platform and data science to build ML applications.

We recommend you start with some knowledge of data analytics on AWS.

Then progress to 

• the machine learning pipeline on AWS (4 days) learn to build, train, evaluate, tune, and deploy an ML model using Amazon SageMaker to solve a business problem in a project-based learning environment
• deep learning on AWS (1 day) learn cloud-based deep learning solutions on AWS, how deep learning is useful, and its different concepts
• practical data science with Amazon Sagemaker (1 day) – Learn how to solve a real-world use case with Machine Learning (ML) and produce actionable results using Amazon SageMaker
• MLOps engineering on AWS (3 days) - Understand the importance of data, model and code to successful ML deployments. Recognise the use of tools, automation, processes and teamwork in addressing the challenges associated with handoffs between data engineers, data scientists, software developers and operations.
• the Machine Learning Pipeline on AWS explains how to the use of the iterative machine learning (ML) process pipeline to solve a real business problem in a project-based learning environment.

These courses will help prepare you for the AWS Certified Machine Learning Specialty certification exam.

• AWS Security Essentials (1 day) learn about fundamental AWS Cloud security concepts, including AWS access control, data encryption methods, and how network access to your AWS infrastructure can be secured This course is accessed via the OGVA portal
• AWS Security Fundamentals ( 2 hours) you will need to login to the portal before accessing this course

The progress to

• Security Engineering on AWS (3 days) learn how to efficiently use AWS security services to stay secure in the AWS Cloud
• AWS Security Best Practices (1 day) learn about AWS security and control types and then deep dive on securing network infrastructure, compute security, and logging and alerting
• AWS Security Governance at Scale (1 day) learn how to automate your cloud governance so that you can retire manual processes through AWS security and governance services and concepts

These courses will help prepare you for the AWS Certified Security Specialty certification exam.  

Your teams can book their places through the OGVA website.  They will need to have an existing AWS Training account (or can create one) to complete registration by clicking login with Amazon and then create your Amazon account.  Their training account should include a work email address or name of employer in order to access the training.
