Statistics on Women's Smoking Status at Time of Delivery: England Quarter 3, 2019-20

10.5% of pregnant women were known to be smokers at the time of delivery during quarter 3 of 2019-20.

This is a slight increase from 10.4% in the previous quarter (quarter 2, 2019-20).

The current national ambition is to achieve a level of 6% or less by 2022.

In quarter 3 of 2019-20, the lowest proportions of women known to be smokers at time of deivery were NHS Central London (1.6%), NHS West London (2.0%), NHS Hounslow (2.2%), NHS Hammersmith & Fulham (2.3%), and NHS Wandsworth (2.5%).

7 CCGs had proportions above 20%. Those with the highest were NHS Blackpool (23.3%), NHS North East Lincolnshire (23.3%), and NHS Lincolnshire East (22.2%).

In quarter 3 of 2019-20, 29 out of 191 CCGs met the national ambition of 6% or less.

In the London NHS England region, it was achieved by 23 out of 32 CCGs, but only by 6 CCGs outside of London.
