Update of missing data for NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG

This report has been updated to incorporate partial missing data for NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG, for quarters 2 to 4 of 2020/21. This added 2,558 maternities for 2020/21 (0.5% of the new national total). The annual percentage of women who were smokers at time of delivery was revised from 9.5% to 9.6%.

Percentage known to be smokers by year

9.6% of pregnant women were known to be smokers at the time of delivery in 2020-21.

This is a decrease from 10.4% in 2019-20 and from 13.7% in 2010-11. 

The current national ambition is to achieve a level of 6% or less by 2022.

Percentage known to be smokers by Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)

In quarter 4 of 2020-21, the lowest proportions of women known to be smokers at time of delivery were NHS West Essex (0%), NHS West London (1.2%) and NHS Tower Hamlets (2.5%).

The highest proportions were NHS Hull (22.8%), NHS North East Lincolnshire (18.8%) and NHS Blackpool (18.6%).

No data was received for NHS Leeds CCG for quarter 4.

Percentage known to be smokers by Clinical Commissioning Group, compared with the national ambition

In quarter 4 of 2020-21, 32 out of the 134 CCGs that submitted data met the national ambition of 6% or less.

In the London NHS England region, it was achieved by 17 out of 18 CCGs, but only by 15 CCGs outside of London.

No data was received for NHS Leeds CCG for quarter 4.
