Out of Area Placements in Mental Health Services, November 2022

Official statistics

Cyber Incident Impact

Unfortunately, a handful of providers of OAPs data have been affected by a recent cyber incident.  NHS England has actively worked with these providers to understand how best to resolve any data submission issues that may have occurred as a result. We also continue to encourage affected providers to reach out to [email protected] as well as their regional Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) teams.

Review of data received to end of January 2023 suggests the impact on monthly OAPs data is limited. We’ll continue to monitor this closely and introduce contingency measures if required. No changes to submission processes will be introduced while service providers are actively dealing with this issue.

Summary

This report presents findings from the Out of Area Placements in Mental Health Services November 2022 collection. The collection is expected to capture the details of all Out of Area Placements in England from both NHS and independent providers. NHS England is running this interim data collection in the Clinical Audit Platform (CAP) until the data becomes aligned and available from the Mental Health Services Data Set (MHSDS). The MHSDS is the chosen mechanism for the long term collection of this data.

This monthly report of Out of Area Placements should be interpreted with caution, as with the previous reports in this series. The limitations section sets out these issues more fully.

This month 41 organisations have participated in this collection, out of the 57 organisations in scope. This means that 72 percent of organisations have participated. The definition of participation can be found on page 5 of the report.
