Summary

This quarterly report brings together information on NHS dental activity in England up to quarter 1 2016-17 and information on the number of patients seen by an NHS dentist up to quarter 2 of 2016-17.

Due to processing errors in the data that were received the publication of patients seen data was delayed until the 10th January 2017.

Highlights

In the 24 month period ending 30th September 2016, 22.1 million adult patients were seen by an NHS dentist, representing 51.3 per cent of the adult population.

The number of children seen by an NHS dentist in the 12 months to 30th September 2016 was 6.7 million. This equates to 57.6 per cent of the child population.

There were 9.7 million courses of treatments (CoT) in quarter 1 of 2016-17, an increase of 74,183 (0.8 per cent) on quarter 1 of 2015-16, based on provisional data.
