There were 234,806 useable critical care records in 2025-26, which was broadly in line with 2024-25 (234,889 records).
Critical Care records by age and sex, 2025-26
In 2025-26, patients aged 65-69 years represented the age group with the highest number of critical care records (29,224 records).
Children and young people (patients aged between 0-19 years) accounted for 3,524 (1.5%) of critical care records.
Male patients accounted for over half (57.4%) of critical care records.
