Top 10 primary diagnoses by commissioning region, 2020-21

There were 1.7 million admissions with a primary diagnosis of neoplasms.

In 2019-20 the most common primary diagnosis was for ‘Diseases of the digestive system’ with neoplasms being the second most common. However in 2020-21,  these rankings were reversed.

 


Top 10 main procedures by commissioning region, 2020-21

Nationally, the most commonly recorded main procedures, were ‘miscellaneous operations’ (1.8 million episodes), comprising of operations on multiple systems, drug therapy, and operations that could not be categorised elsewhere.
