Other reports and statistics

Summary

This report presents summary information about GOS activity in England for the financial year 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019, and time series from 2002-03.

Prior to the 2017-18 release, this publication was released with additional breakdowns in the data. Any breakdowns regarding eligibility (over 60, JSA, etc.) have been removed due to issues with the accuracy, which made these figures potentially misleading. Any breakdowns to do with geographical area have also been removed as it was not possible to accurately assign sight tests to each area, which made these figures misleading.

In 2018-19:

The number of NHS-funded sight tests carried out was 13,225,755

an increase of 1.5% from 2017-18 and of 26.9% since 2002-03

3.4% of all NHS-funded sight tests were domiciliary

574,541 vouchers for repair or replacement were used

2.7% less than 2017-18

Optometrists conducted over 99% of all NHS funded sight tests

there were approximately 982 sight tests per practitioner
